The Community that Cares . . .about 5ks

Here is the post reporting on my most recent race- the Community Care sponsored 5k. This is one of my favorite courses- around the Greenbelt and a little into Freeman Park. This event is one of the biggest local races that I participate in- Run to Feed the Hungry is the largest. My time was pretty good- mostly I enjoyed running with my peeps. For anyone with the hankering to start running in Idaho Falls- I highly recommend any race put on by Personal Best Performance.

Feliz Dia de las Madres!!

Oh boy- another reason to get presents!! No- just kidding. I think Mother's Day is one of the most deserved holidays in existence and love to be included in the honorees of the occasion! Todd made buttermilk pancakes served with strawberries and cream for breakfast. He cooked it all and cleaned it all up- what a husband! Then he gave me my yummy Sarah's Candy Cottage present- in the cutest box! A great compliment to the mandatory plant-life gift- like my new planter, too? We went to church and Dallis and Hadley almost sang along with the primary. I got some really cute 'I'm-so-proud-of-myself' grins from the girls, so that was enough! We went to my mom's house and my mom gave me the BEST apron! The packaging labeled it as a 1947 Vintage Cooking Apron- she gave them to all the girls so we just had to pose!

And we wouldn't dream of leaving the big girls out of a photo op! Hooray for motherhood! Here are some quotes I liked about moms!
"My mother had a great deal of trouble with me, but I think she enjoyed it." Mark Twain
"The most important thing she'd learned over the years was that there was no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one." Jill Churchill
"The reason grandparents and grandchildren get along so well is that they have a common enemy." Sam Levenson
And an endearing one- just for the sake of being sweet!
"What children take from us, they give…We become people who feel more deeply, question more deeply, hurt more deeply, and love more deeply." Sonia Taitz

Runnin' around

A year or so ago my mom and sister Elise pitched the idea of running a marathon. Wacked out idea- that was my initial reaction. Then we began to talk about it more and more and it grew on me. What a thing to accomplish- 26.2 miles! Well- as training began we started to reassess our goals- and decided to start out with a half-marathon. Still quite the feat. My training took a little break as I was busy creating life- but found myself running again just after Graham joined our family. Elise was originally going to run with us- but Hansen Baby #3(due this fall) wasn't as interested. Anyway- I know that the background to this video of the actual race is a little cheesy- but after 1 1/2 years of planning- it is so good to say that we did it! We (my mom, Caitlan, Jake and I) ran the 2008 Salt Lake City Half-Marathon! Check out this little video to celebrate our craziness!

So Funny

http://www.despair.com

One of the classes I am in this semester is CS499, the Senior Project. At the top of the syllabus, you are introduced to the course with these images

Isn't that encouraging? You have to know Bro. Twitchell - it fits him perfectly to include these.

Anyway, this despair.com where these images come from is now one of my favorite websites. Here are some more awesome images I found there

and of course, the Pessimist's Mug
